Nancy Rios-Contreras

Nancy Rios-Contreras is an Assistant Professor of Sociology in the Wilkinson College of Arts, Humanities, and Social Sciences at Chapman University. She is a William Averette Anderson Fund (BAF) alumna. Nancy received her Ph.D. in Criminology from the University of Delaware. She won the George Herbert Ryden Prize in the Social Sciences for her dissertation, “Lo Único que Queremos es una Oportunidad de Vida [All WE Want is an Opportunity of Life]: Intersecting Migrant Experiences en Route to the United States-Mexico Borderlands.” Her most recent work in Tijuana, Baja California, explores border disasters and uses a methodological framework entitled Border Participatory Action Research (Border PAR). Nancy’s research interests include borders and migration, community adaptations to disasters, race and ethnicity, criminalization, and qualitative methods.
