BIOGRAPHY
Shangjia Dong is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering and a core faculty member in the Disaster Research Center at the University of Delaware. He obtained his dual B.S.E. in Information and Computational Science and Finance from the University of Electronic Sciences and Technology of China. After he received his M.S. and Ph.D. degree in Civil Engineering and minor in Computer Sciences from Oregon State University, he spent two years at the UrbanResilience.AI Lab of Texas A&M University at College Station as a Postdoctoral Research Associate. He joined the University of Delaware and the Disaster Research Center in 2020.
Dong’s interdisciplinary research on smart and resilient urban systems uses a network paradigm that bridges the boundaries between network science, civil engineering, and social science. His work aims to design and prototype engineering systems and solutions to enable data integration, system analytics, machine intelligence, and risk-informed decision-making to enable risk and resilience assessment of infrastructure system, critical infrastructure protection, effective disaster preparedness and response, equitable resilience planning and management, and smart and resilient operation of urban infrastructure.
